The Independent National Electoral
Commission in Kano State has fixed July 30 for the conduct of Minjibir
State Assembly bye-election.
Alhaji Abdullahi Kaugama, INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in charge of Kaduna State, made the disclosure on Friday.
Kaugama was redeployed from Kaduna to conduct the bye-election.
According to him, the election is being
conducted as a result of the cancellation of the by-election earlier
conducted on April 30.
“We have recruited no fewer than 657
adhoc staff to conduct the election. We have also concluded all the
necessary arrangements for the election”, he said.
Kaugama said that Kano state Police
command had assured the commission of its readiness to provide adequate
security personnel during the election.
“The intervention of various conflict
resolution groups with capacity to mobilize the required consensus for
violence free poll was engaged by our commission.
“We had series of meetings with all the relevant stakeholders with a view to ensuring success of the exercise,“ Kaugama added.
The by-election conducted earlier was cancelled as a result of violence that marred the exercise.
